Tailor Made Walking Breaks

Although we have reduced the number of walks shown on our website, we still have a large portfolio of walks with different features. In addition to way-marked walks, some of which you can find in walking books, there are many others which we have tried and tested and can be part of a walking holiday. Let us know your time schedule and preferred walking break requirements and we will respond with an outline itinerary and cost.

Here is an example of a loch which has a walk path to and back the same way, however we prefer dropping off our customers at a point at the far side of the hill. Walkers then climb the hill and continue down this side and by the loch side to join the normal path. We then suggest continuing onto a different walk route into a National Scenic Area, with a detour option to ancent oak woodlands, and then into a small town which is worth a stroll around in it's own right to see the castle, the kilt shop, old mill visitor centre on the river and local presereves producer's shop and tea room. Although some of our walks are remote, we try and design routes to include places of interest. This of course includes tea rooms, pubs and other refreshment places, which can be at the middle or end.

To illustrate what I said above, here is an island with a lighthouse, and your host in the foreground. Although way-marked, I've not seen this walk in any walking books. Not a lot of people know about it apart from locals. It is one of our favourites. It starts from a bay and follows the coast, turning into another bay with the island at it's mouth. The island has a history with a murder having been committed there - a story on it's own which we tell on our guided walk here. The walk can be a 4.5 miles loop, or continue to join a completely different kind of woodland and coast walk, visiting an old cemetery. The end of this second walk finishes at a popular beach after 6.5 miles further on in the town where we suggest a good tea room or pub while you wait to be picked up.

I’m so sorry that I haven’t got back to you until now to say how wonderful our stay at Summerhill was. We had a fantastic weekend and that was mainly because of you and your lovely wife Tina. You both made us feel so welcome and your hospitality was amazing. The B&B was the best we have ever stayed in and we really enjoyed waking up to the nice coffee and breakfast.
Also the guidance you gave us with the walks was great. Our feet were a bit sore but it was very much worth it.
Thank you very much again and I have already recommended Summerhill and Castle Douglas walking holiday to family and friends.

We both just wanted to say a huge thank you for the great trip. We had a fantastic time, and it was just what we needed as a break in the countryside. The planning was great, and we really appreciated that you tailored the trip so that we got to see a variety of terrains and sites.

We would like thank you for a great time up in and around Castle Douglas. The walks were well planned and tailored to our requests. It was especially nice to get dropped off at the start and collected at the end of each day and a diversion to a local micro brewery was an unexpected bonus. Thank you for the photographs. You have a lovely house, tastefully furnished and with well equipped rooms.  You made us feel very welcome and we had a good start to each day with a hearty breakfast.  Robin with his local knowledge told us many stories and facts about the area which added to our stay and helped us appreciate this location more, it is not one we have visited before. Thank you again and we hope that we will be able to visit you again in the not too distant future.
David and Caroline Upton, England.

I loved my short walking holiday in Dumfries and Galloway, including my stay at Robin and Tina's Summerhill B&B, and can vouch for Robin's ability to tailor a holiday to suit anyone's needs.
