7 Day Walking Breaks
- a week of different day walks to explore Galloway.
Our 7 Day Walking Breaks are ideal to experience different areas of Dumfries and Galloway.
Each day’s walk, whether circular or linear, is in a different location. Walks can be from half to a full day giving you the opportunity to also look around the area using our up to date information. You can use your own car for transport or we can assist with our minibus.
Below we outline three 7 day walking breaks with different grade options - Easy, Moderate and Strenuous. These relate to the walk distance and difficulty. You can walk either day first.
We have an extensive selection of other walks in the region which we can incorporate into a 7 day walking break, so If you have specific requirements for a 7 day walking break, just let us know and we will respond with an outline itinerary and a price quote.
Format
- After arrival, we will meet you at your first night’s accommodation base where we provide and go over your Walk Information Pack including route maps and daily itineraries with you.
Your first day’s walk starts after breakfast the following day when, if required, we provide transport.
After your third nights stay and the third day’s walk, you can either depart or stay another night if you wish.
Transport
- Walk tranport prices (drop off at walk start and pickup at end) are shown separately in case you wish to use your own car for circular walks. For linear walks, using our minibus, we are able to drop off at the start point and pickup at end or even part assist with public transport if you wish.

Summary
- We have designed a week’s walking break of half day walks taking you to see different parts of the region. We suggest up to three different accommodation locations, i.e.
Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Newton Stewart or Wigtown. This will allow for a not too long drive to and from the walks chosen.
From Newton Stewart or Wigtown, walks are suggested at the
Mull of Galloway,
Portpatrick,
Isle of Whithorn,
Glentrool and Kirroughtree in the west Galloway.
From Castle Douglas, in mid to east Galloway,
The Glenkens, Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas and the Solway Coast areas provide varied selection of walks.
From Dumfries, further east in Dumfriesshire,
Thornhill and Drumlanrig area, Dumfries, the Annandale Way, Moffat and Langholm have walks which let you explore these areas.
If considering this walking week, we will discuss the walks and characteristics of the areas before designing a walking break to suit you.
7C – Explore Galloway Walking Week.

Summary
- We suggest the more challenging walks according to your walking ability and experience. Although we can avoid the most difficult hill walks in Galloway for self guided breaks, there are still plenty of walks which are in the challenging category due to the various coastal stretches, river valleys, loch circuits and upland terrain. After consulatation, we can select walks which we think you would like.
An end of walk beer at Sulwath brewery in Castle Douglas and a wind down in our swim/spa at our Summerhill B&B ensures a relaxing end to each day's walk. Alternatively we can also arrange accommodation in another area for part of this break.
Our walk selection for this break includes:
Rhins of Kells, Criffel, Dalbeattie Forest and the Colvend Coast; Coastline either side of Kirkcudbright; Southern Upland Way; Striding Arches and other themed walk locations; Glentrool and further west in to the Machars and Rhinns regions of Galloway.
Please contact us to discuss this walking break.
